The American Bully XL is being added to the list of banned dogs in England and Wales. This means that from 31 December, it will be illegal to breed, sell, advertise, rehome, abandon or allow an XL Bully dog to stray. XL Bully dogs must also be muzzled and on a lead in public with effect from 31 December. The dogs were added to the list following a number of attacks involving the breed.
American bullies are said to have originated in the US in the late 1980s, when American pit bull terriers and American Staffordshire terriers were crossed. There are four variations: standard, pocket, classic and XL. The XL can weigh more than 60 kilos and is strong enough to overpower an adult.
